Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal data KnowDLaw collects, why, and the rights you have over it under Nigerian law.
1. Who We Are
KnowDLaw (knowdlaw.com) is a legal information and services platform operating in Nigeria, providing an AI legal assistant, a directory of NBA-verified lawyers, and legal document templates to everyday Nigerians and foreigners living in Nigeria.
2. Information We Collect
We collect only what we need to run the platform:
- Account information — name, email address, and (if you choose to add it) your phone number and state. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from your Google account.
- Usage content — questions you ask our AI assistant, chat history, lawyer connect messages, reviews you submit, support tickets, and documents you generate or edit.
- Payment metadata — transaction references and amounts from Paystack. We never see or store your full card number.
- Lawyer-specific information — if you register as a lawyer, your NBA enrolment number and the verification details you submit.
- Basic technical data — standard web server logs (IP address, browser type) used for security and to keep the platform running reliably.
3. How We Use Your Data
We use your data to:
- Provide the service you've asked for — answering legal questions, connecting you with a lawyer, generating a document, processing a purchase
- Process payments and manage subscription renewals through Paystack
- Send you account, payment, and support-related emails (receipts, renewal reminders, ticket updates)
- Detect and prevent abuse of the platform, including attempts to bypass the lawyer-contact-info filter
- Improve our legal guides and the accuracy of AI-generated answers
We do not sell your personal data to anyone.
4. Legal Basis for Processing
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA), we process your data on these bases: to perform our contract with you (providing the account/service you signed up for), with your consent (for example, the AI assistant processing your question), and for our legitimate interests in keeping the platform secure and working properly.
7. Data Retention
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account (see Section 8), we remove your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we're required to keep certain records (for example, payment records) for legal or accounting purposes.
8. Your Rights (NDPA)
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct it if it's inaccurate, request deletion of it, object to certain processing, and lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) if you believe we've mishandled your data.
You can correct your own name, email, phone, and state at any time from your account Settings. For anything else — including a full data export or account deletion — contact contact@knowdlaw.com.
9. Children's Privacy
KnowDLaw is not directed at, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from, anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us and we'll remove it.
10. Data Security
We apply technical and organizational safeguards to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) across the platform, encrypted storage for sensitive configuration, and access controls on our admin systems. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
11. International Transfers
Some of our service providers — including the AI providers that power our legal assistant — may process data on servers outside Nigeria. Where this happens, we rely on providers with appropriate data-protection safeguards in place.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above whenever we do.
13. Contact Us
